Thermador repair in San Leandro mostly involves gas ranges and cooktops, wall and steam ovens, induction cooktops, built-in refrigeration and dishwashers. The first step is the same for all of them: confirm the model, test the likely failure points, explain the parts options and give you the price before work begins. That order matters with a premium brand, because the wrong part ordered on a guess costs you time as well as money.
Thermador lines we service
Thermador has made kitchen appliances since 1916 and is now part of BSH Home Appliances. We work on:
- Pro Grand and Pro Harmony ranges — see range repair
- Professional Series and Masterpiece wall ovens, steam ovens and cooktops — see oven repair
- Freedom Induction cooktops
- Freedom Collection refrigeration — see refrigerator repair
- Dishwashers — see dishwasher repair
Star burners and ExtraLow
Thermador’s Star Burner is shaped like a five-pointed star. The shape puts more flame ports around the edge than a round burner of the same size and spreads heat toward the edge of the pan. It also means more ports for a boil-over to block. A Star burner that lights slowly, burns on only part of its edge or has a weak, lazy flame usually needs its ports cleaned and its cap seated correctly before anyone replaces a part.
ExtraLow works by cycling the flame on and off to hold a very low heat. A flame that comes and goes on that setting is the feature working. A burner that clicks with the knob off, or that will not relight, is not.
Induction cooktops
- Pan not detected. Induction needs magnetic cookware that covers enough of the zone. A fridge magnet is a quick test.
- Shuts off mid-cooking or shows a heat warning. Induction cooktops cut power to protect their electronics when they run hot. A failed cooling fan, or blocked ventilation in the cabinet below, is a common reason.
- One zone dead or an error code. A power module, sensor or control fault that needs model-specific diagnosis. Note the exact code before switching the breaker off and on.
Ovens and steam ovens
Temperature complaints are measured over several heating cycles, then traced to the sensor, an element, the convection fan or the control. A door that stays locked after a self-clean, once the oven has fully cooled, points to the lock mechanism or its control. Steam ovens add a water system: mineral scale, the water tank, the door seal and the steam generator. Weak steam or a water-related error often starts with descaling that has been put off.
Symptoms and what they usually take
| What you notice | Likely cause | What it usually takes |
|---|---|---|
| Burner clicks but won’t light | Wet or misaligned cap, blocked ports, dirty electrode | Drying, cleaning and alignment; ignition parts if needed |
| Clicking with the knob off | Moisture in, or failure of, a spark switch | Switch or spark module replacement |
| Induction zone won’t heat | Cookware, sensor or power module | Cookware check, then electronics diagnosis |
| Oven slow to preheat | Element, sensor or, on gas, the igniter | Measured test, then the failed part |
| Steam oven weak steam or error | Scale, water supply or tank | Descaling, then component checks |
| Refrigerator column warming | Condenser, fan, defrost or door gasket | Airflow and defrost diagnosis |
| Dishwasher leaves water in the tub | Filter, drain pump or hose | Cleaning, or drain pump repair |
Refrigeration and dishwashers
Freedom Collection columns and other built-in units warm up for the same reasons most refrigerators do: dust on the condenser, a failed fan, a defrost fault or a door that no longer seals. Heavy column doors can also drift out of alignment over time. On Thermador dishwashers, water left in the tub, a leak-protection shutdown and poor drying are the usual calls, and we trace each one to the filter, the drain pump, the base pan or the heating circuit.
Parts and repair-or-replace
Technicians carry common parts, so many repairs are done on the first visit. Control boards, induction modules and model-specific components may need to be ordered, and we tell you that at the diagnosis. Repair usually wins when one part has failed on a built-in appliance that matches the rest of your kitchen. Replacement is worth discussing when several systems fail at once or a part is no longer available. If you are choosing a new range, our Wolf vs Thermador comparison lays out the differences.
Before you call
- Write down the model number and any error code or display message.
- If the appliance is connected through Home Connect, note any message the app showed.
- For a burner, check that the cap is seated and dry.
We are an independent company, not affiliated with Thermador, serving San Leandro, San Lorenzo and Castro Valley, including Ashland and Cherryland. Same-day service is usually possible when you call before noon.
